One man in a thousand, Solomon says,

Will stick more than a brother.

And it's worth while seeking him half your days

If you find him before the other.

Nine hundred and ninety-nine depend

On what the world sees in you,

But the Thousandth man will stand your friend

With the whole round world agin you.

천 사람 중의 한 사람은

형제보다 더 가까이 네 곁에 머물 것이다.

인생의 절반을 바쳐서라도

그러한 사람을 찾을 필요가 있다.

그 사람이 너를 발견하기를 기다리지 말고,

 

구백아흔아홉 사람이 세상 사람들이 바라보는 대로

너를 바라볼 것이다.

하지만 그 천 번째 사람은 언제까지나

너의 친구로 남으리라.

세상 사람 전체가 너에게 등을 돌릴지라도.

 

'Tis neither promise nor prayer nor show

Will settle the finding for'ee.

Nine hundred and ninety-nine of'em go

By your look, or your acts, or you glory.

But if he finds and you find him.

The rest of he world don't matter,

For the Thousandth Man will sink or swim

With you in any water.

그 만남은 약속이나 바램이나 겉으로 내보이기 위한 것이 아닌

너를 위한 진정한 만남이 되리라.

천 사람 중의 구백아흔아홉 사람은 떠나갈 것이다.

너의 표정에 따라, 너의 행동에 따라, 또는 네가 무엇을 이루는가에 따라.

 

그런 네가 그 사람을 발견하고 그 사람이 너를 발견한다면

나머지 세상 사람들은 문제가 되지 않으리라.

그 천번째 사람이 언제나 너와 함께 물 위를 헤엄치고

또는 물 속으로도 기꺼이 너와 함께 가라앉을 것이기에.

때로 그가 너의 지갑을 사용할 수도 있지만

너는 더 많이 그의 지갑을 사용할 수 있을 것이다. 많은 이유를 대지 않고서도.

그리고 날마다 산책길에서 웃으며 만나라.

마치 서로 빌려 준 돈 따위는 없다는 듯이.

구백아흔아홉 명은 거래할 때마다 담보를 요구하리라.

하지만 그 천 번째 사람은 그들 모두를 합친 것보다 더 가치가 있다.

왜냐하면 넌 자신의 진실한 감정을 그 사람에게는 보여 줄 수 있으니까.

The shame or mocking or laughter,

But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side

태양이 비칠 때나 눈비가 내릴 때나.

 

구백아흔아홉 사람은 수치스러움과 모욕 비웃음을 견디지 못할 것이다.

하지만 그 천번째 사람은 언제나 네 곁에 있으리라.

함께 죽음을 맞이하는 한이 있더라도.
